Irish Colleges Cyber-Security Challenge
Our flagship event, the Irish Colleges Cyber-Security Challenge, aims to showcase and identify the best cyber-security students in the country. The event caters for all levels from complete IT beginners to experienced professional penetration testers. The focus of the event is fun and inclusiveness and we encourage everyone to come and experience this unique, enjoyable and challenging event.
With over 50 unique challenges on the day, we have tasks and activities to keep teams of all abilities entertained. Teams have to solve security related tasks from domains such as web security, mobile security, RF and IoT security, cryptography, reverse engineering, forensics, puzzles, trivia and much more. So if you enjoy solving challenges, coding, security, IT or just having fun then Zero Days colleges CTF is for you.
Zero Days CTF was launched in 2015; a national cyber-security competition aimed at students, university graduates and ICT professionals. This event has a clear mission: to find new and young cyber talents and encourage young people to pursue a career in cyber-security. The success of our event can be seen in the ever-increasing number of participants: from 80 in 2015, to an estimated 300 expected for this year’s competition, making it not only Ireland’s premier CTF competition, but one of the largest on-site CTFs globally.

The event is a 'Capture The Flag' (CTF) event, in which teams try to complete as many challenges as they can, completing a challenge earns the team a flag which scores the team points. The team with the most points at the end of the day is the winner.
As well as the honor of being crowned Irish Colleges Cyber-Security Champions, we give out over 3,000 euro in prizes each year across all categories, all thanks to our generous sponsors. This includes prizes for the top teams in each category and spot prizes.
To be eligible to win the main colleges prizes, all team members must be current students from the same Irish/NI college. Current student cards will have to be produced as proof of team eligibility, to collect prizes.
Everyone on the day competes against other teams in one of two categories: 'College Teams' or 'Non-College Teams'.
College Teams: are defined as a team consisting of current students all from the same Irish/NI college.
Non-College Teams: includes everyone else. (non colleges students, industry professional, mixed college teams, etc.)
Only 'College teams' are elligble for the main prizes, but there will be prizes for the top team in the non-colleges category, and chances of spot prizes for everyone.
Each team can have a maximum of 4 members, no additional outside help is permitted.
You can compete on smaller teams or on your own, but why would you? it's more fun in a team!
Absolutely not! Any sharing or trading of answers will disqualify all teams involved.
Each year we choose a theme for our event from Fr. Ted to Super heroes. Teams are encouraged to come in fancy dress. This year's theme is 'Game of Thrones'. Teams who come in costume will receive a bonus 200 points, and likely get more spot prizes and have more fun!
You need to bring your own laptops and extension cables. While we try to provide wifi for everyone we always recommend having access to your own internet hot-spot, through your phone or similar.
We are in the process of creating a training site, with sample challenges and solutions and links to helpful resources. You'll be able to register and use the new training site from March 18th - check it out here https://Zero Days.ctfd.io
